On behalf of the wider NZL Sailing Team, we would like to thank you for your support of our campaign at the recent Red Bull Youth America’s Cup. Without it, we wouldn’t have been able to put together such a great campaign.
The 2016 Red Bull Youth America’s Cup was an outstanding event to be a part of. While we had a poor start on the first day of the finals, we sailed a perfect second day to take the lead overall as we crossed the finish line. However, the dramatic series of events that ensued could not have been scripted and we were denied the chance to emulate the 2013 team who won the inaugural event.
We know the sailing world was watching and hope they saw enough potential in us to support us in our careers. It’s a great time to be involved in sailing, especially after Emirates Team New Zealand brought the America’s Cup back home, and we’re all really excited about what opportunities might come our way. Some of us are putting Olympic campaigns together, others are exploring professional opportunities, but we’re all grateful for the experiences we had leading up to and during the Red Bull Youth America’s Cup and for your support, without which this would not have been possible.
We met some wonderful and supportive people along the way. Thank you to everyone who was involved in some way, from those who donated money or supported our fundraising campaign to those who followed the racing and sent us messages of support - and to Simon for the loan of his GC32 which, thankfully, remained in one piece. We would especially like to thank our families, who all sacrificed so much for our campaign. We couldn’t have done it without you all.
Thanks again
