Windfoilers gearing up for first international trip

Issue date

The Yachting New Zealand windfoiling squad will make their first foray into international waters later this year and have a couple of fundraising events to help get them there.

Windfoiling has been included on the programme for the 2024 Paris Olympics, which prompted Yachting New Zealand and Windfoil New Zealand to put a development squad together to accelerate the development of this country's top windfoiling prospects.

They've been training together for about a year now and their next big step is a training and racing block in Europe from September. The six young sailors aged between 19 and 22 will compete at the IQFoil European Championship at Marseille, the venue for the sailing at the 2024 Olympics, as well as the Princess Sofia Trophy in Spain.

To assist with the costs of this trip, they have a couple of fundraising initiatives underway:

Quiz Night (August 6, 2021)

This event will be hosted at Wakatere Boating Club and will be attended by approximately 120 people. With help from generous sponsors, they will be auctioning off items and experiences throughout the night. You can book a table for this fun night here

Brand Promotion

The squad’s home base is off the beaches of the North Shore and they are on the water roughly five times a week training.

The time spent rigging is a great opportunity to promote your brand with stickers on the brightly-coloured sails.

Once the team hit the water, their high speed and colourful sails attract a lot of attention from other boats, ferries, evening racers and weekend boaties. Further details are available on becoming a platinum, gold, silver or bronze sponsor by contacting: nzlwindfoilteam@gmail.com

Any contribution to either of these initiatives would be greatly appreciated by the sailors.
