Wind warriors to gather for national champs

Issue date

If you've got a Wind Warrior in the garage, now is the time to dust it off, check the batteries and get it ready for next month's national championships at Westhaven Marina.

The nationals will be held on November 8 and will quickly be followed by the NZ Champs (State of Origin) on November 21.

The NZ Champs would have been the world championships but, with Australian teams unable to travel due to Covid-19, the event has been shortened to one day and will be run as some form of State of Origin. The format will be decided based on the entrants on the day.

Kiwis have been travelling to Sydney and Melbourne for the last couple of years to compete for the Interdominion Cup, the Best Club (currently held by NZ’s Clarks Beach) and the world championships, and this year was New Zealand's turn to host.

If you haven’t raced your Wind Warrior radio controlled boat for a while, there will be practice days in Karaka prior to the nationals.
