Waller Cup Results

Sailability Auckland’s Waller Cup was due to be sailed over the two days of Anzac Weekend. However, while sailors braved what could, at best, be described as lively conditions on day one, with even higher winds on day two, a vote was taken, and most sailors agreed that while the Hansa boats could handle it, the cost of potentially broken gear was not worth the risk. The ten boats (six Liberty and four 303’s) competing had completed four races, which was enough to constitute a series, so the Gulf Harbour Yacht Club race management team called off racing on the Sunday. After only just making the start of race one due to missing rudder blades, and finishing third, Tony Vaka went on to win the other three races so was the winner in the Liberty class of the Waller Cup. Wayne South and Helena Horswell were equal on points; however Helena was second on count back. Andrew May convincingly won in the 303 class, with the pairing of Belinda Edwards and Melinda Henshaw in second and Rachel Shardlow and Amanda Beaver in third. Full results are attached below.
