Volvo Sailing… Have a Go! kicks off for 2014/15

The 2014-15 season is about to get underway for the Volvo Sailing… Have a Go! programme with the Northern region trailer at Bucklands Beach for Monday 13th October heralding the start of the new season.

Volvo Sailing… Have a Go! is a nationwide sailing programme for kids in years 3 to 8 with three large trailer units travelling the length and breadth of the country through the summer months. Yesterday the programme’s three Instructors spent the day with a group at Royal Akarana Yacht Club in preparation.

This year Reuben Corbett is the sole returning Instructor with the programme. Now in his third year, Reuben will run the northern unit starting at Bucklands Beach next Monday.

Woo Yeong Joo who has experience coaching around the Auckland region will run the central region and Roger Redmond, who hails from Christchurch will deliver the programme to South Island children. Roger has previously coached and run learn to sail programmes at Charteris Bay and Naval Point Club.

Towed by the powerful Volvo XC90s the trailer units contain 6 Optimists, 2 Toppas and a Weta trimaran bringing sailing to kids around the country. Last season 3580 kids took part in the programme.

Bookings for the coming season have flooded in from schools far afield Taipa in the North and Bluff and Riverton in the South.  Volvo Sailing...Have a Go! will go to Gisborne in the East, and Lake Mahinapua and Lake Brunner on the West Coast of the South Island.
