Upcoming Regattas

Issue date

Below is a list of most local and some international regattas for the Hansa Class that New Zealand sailors are likely to attend. I recommend anyone interested in attending Hansa Class regattas visit the International Hansa Class Association website on a regular basis for updates. http://hansaclass.org/ If there is any that have been missed off, please email Helena

1-3 January 2016, Napier Sailing Club New Year Regatta – The first regatta to count towards the New Zealand Hansa Class Association Traveller Series. A regatta that I can highly recommend, but as this is holiday season, you will need to plan and book accommodation early. Keep an eye on Napier Sailing Club’s website for more information, or email Sailability Hawkes Bay

CANCELLED - The Inaugural International Sailing Championships For Sailors With An Intellectual Disability that was to be held 22 – 26 January 201,at Docklands Sailing Club, Melbourne Australia

6 – 7 February 2016, Waikato Thames Centreboard Regatta, Ngaroto Sailing Club. Ngaroto Sailing Club has again kindly offered to include Hansa 303 and Libertys in their Waikato Thames Centreboard Regatta on February 6th & 7th. I sailed at a regatta there in November and thoroughly enjoyed myself. However, while this is an inclusive event, Ngaroto Sailing Club is still improving its access. The clubrooms are ramped and there is a C Crane on the dock, but there is about 250 meters of sloping, slightly uneven grass between the dock and the club rooms, and there probably won’t be volunteers allocated solely to helping the Hansa fleet. If you are relatively self sufficient (C crane users should bring their own slings), don’t mind asking other sailors for some help where needed, and are happy to “rough it” slightly, I would highly recommend this regatta. For more information, go to Ngaroto Sailing Club’s website.

24 – 28 February 2016, Oceanbridge Sail Auckland. A must for every serious sailor. The second regatta to count towards the New Zealand Hansa Class Association Traveller Series. This year the Paralympic and invited Hansa classes will be sailing out of Gulf Harbour. Paralympic classes are scheduled to sail on four days, but the other Hansa classes are scheduled to sail the last three days. More information can be found on the Oceanbridge Sail Auckland website. Classification will also be available, subject to demand.

12 - 13 March 2016. Lake Taupo Yacht Club Mighty River Power Regatta. The third regatta to count towards the New Zealand Hansa Class Association Traveller Series.  This centrally located regatta has attracted good Hansa Class entries over recent years when lake levels are high enough. Well worth putting in your diary. For more information visit the Lake Taupo Yacht Club website.

3 – 9 June 2016, Royal Yacht Club Hollandia, Medemblik, Holland  -   2016 Hansa Class World Championships. For updates and more information visit  the 2016 Hansa Worlds website.

5- 13 November 2016, Paradise Point Sailing Club, Queensland Australia, Pan Pacific Masters Games – for more information visit the event website.

26 – 27 November 2016, Sailability ACT, Canberra, Australia - Friendship Cup. This is over a year away, but for planning purposes, organisers were requesting expressions of interest by the end of November 2015. For more details, see the attached PDF.
