Top young sailors converge on Picton for Interislander

Issue date

Island pride goes on the line once again at this month's Interislander regatta in Picton.

The Queen Charlotte Yacht Club will host the 11th edition of the Interislander Optimist Challenge and Port Marlborough Starling Championships from February 22-24.

At stake will be the Interislander Trophy, awarded to the island with the highest points from placings in each category. The Optimist open and Starling fleets will sail on the outer harbour and the Optimist green and rainbow fleets will compete in front of the clubhouse.

The Interislander is also the South Island's only ranking regatta in the Optimist class so takes on added significance.

The Queen Charlotte yacht Club is going through a major rebuild but it's not expected to diminish the event, and their famous Taste of Marlborough, when local food and wine will be on offer, will still go ahead on the Friday night.

You can still enter here and follow the event on the Queen Charlotte Yacht Club's Facebook page and app.
