College Sport Regatta

Top schools battle it out at college sport regatta

Issue date

A big fleet of Starlings and the participation of two Hansa sailors were the features of the college sport regatta in Auckland this week.

As many as 85 sailors across eight junior and youth classes competed over two days at the Wakatere Boating Club this week, with 36 boats in the Starling fleet. They encountered fresh conditions on the first day and moderate winds on day two.

Nathan Vince (St Kentigern College) edged Ethan Fong (Westlake Boys High School) and Alex Hebbard (Rangitoto College) in the Starling as many gear up for next month's Starling national championships in Nelson. Grace Still (Epsom Girls Grammar) was the first female, followed by Kayle Abbott (Rangitoto) and Sophia Morgan (Epsom).

The Laser provided the tightest finish, with Wentworth College's Matthew Rist winning on countback over schoolmate Blake Wood with Mariana Mirow, also from Wenstworth, finishing third.

Westlake Boy's High School took out the team's trophy.
