Top lineup to speak at Murrays Bay Winter Champs

Issue date

The Murrays Bay Sailing Club will mark 30 years of the Winter Champs with a special evening of guest speakers on October 3 that is open to all comers.

Former commodore Rod Slater was a driving force behind the establishment of the Winter Champs and will be in attendance and he will be joined by a series of speakers.

  • Nick Egnot-Johnson and Leonard Takahashi will talk about their experiences in match racing and SailGP
  • Jim Maloney and Nathan Handley will offer their perspective and insights into coaching - all the way to the Olympic level
  • And Cameron Dunn and Don Cowie will talk about how they have developed international careers, sailing on multiple circuits and different classes around the world

All six have turned their passion and love of sailing into a career, showing that while all are accomplished sailors in their own right, there are many doors a love of sailing can open if you seek them out.

The club plan to run the evening on similar lines to the post-Bermuda America's Cup evening with speakers kicking off around 7.30pm with a meal available between speakers.

Tickets for this event are $25 per person with every cent (once the dinner has been paid for) going to support the club's operations. Competitively priced drinks will also be available.

Payment can be made on the night. The club hope to have EFTPOS but cash is always good!

Numbers are limited so please confirm attendance asap to Julian Beavis on 021 735770 or j.beavis@xtra.co.nz.
