Team Jolly back in 4th at 2015 470 World Championships

Issue date

Jo Aleh and Polly Powrie are back into 4th after day four at the 2015 Olympic 470 World Championships on now in Haifa, Israel.

Adding another two races today Aleh and Powrie climbed in the standings with two single digit results (4, 8) putting them back in touch with Camille Lecointre and Helene Defrance (FRA) lying 3rd.

“A slightly more consistent day at the office today, but by no means a good day,” says Jo Aleh. “We had a great start in the first race, our first really good start yet. So that was a good improvement, but we didn't really capitalize enough and finished the race in 4th.”

“The next race was rather annoying, we had an ok start, but got fouled by two boats in the first few minutes, including one crash tack onto port to avoid a boat, with Polly in the water still hooked onto her trapeze.”

“No collisions luckily, and the boats that got in our way did their penalty turns, but that didn't help us get back the lost meters! We came back well though and were up to 4th at one stage, but failed to full pull it off, and ended up 8th.”

“Another day tomorrow, two races, two chances to really give it our all and see where that takes us. We’re looking forward to it.”

Tomorrow is the penultimate day of the regatta where the 2015 World titles will be decided; here’s how the points stack up at the top of the women’s leader board.

Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark (GBR) take back the lead on 30 points, pushing Austria’s Lara Vadlau and Jola Ogar (AUT) into 2nd, but just a single point back on 31.

A win to Camille Lecointre and Helene Defrance propels them back up to third overall with 47 points, with Jo Aleh/Polly Powrie (NZL) climbing to fourth on 50 points. Anne Haeger and Briana Provancha (USA) also have 50 points and lie 5th leaving the kiwis no room for error.

Paul Snow-Hansen and Daniel Willcox are in 15th overall in the men’s fleet facing a 20 point margin and an uphill battle to break back into the top ten for a place in Sunday’s medal race.
