It attracted more than 100 boats this year but on-shore activities are just as popular at the annual Tall Ships Regatta hosted by the Russell Boating Club.
Three 'light-hearted' races will be sailed for tall ships (monohulls, 9m minimum, two or more masts), classic invitations (6.7m minimum, any rig) and allcomers, including multihulls (6.7m minimum) on January 9, 2021.
It will then be followed by one of New Zealand's biggest hangi, dancing and the obligatory tall stories until the wee hours at the club's Matauwhi Bay headquarters.
The Tall Ships event is sailed under the International Regulations for Prevention of Collisions at Sea (not the international yacht racing rules) and participants are encouraged to familiarise themselves with these rules before the start of the event.
