Sign up for May's Aon New to Youth Classes Clinic

Issue date

Aon New to Youth Classes Clinics are a fantastic opportunity for young sailors transitioning out of the junior classes to get a head start as they move into the youth classes.

A two-day clinic will be held at the Royal Akarana Yacht Club on May 8-9, which has been timed to capture some of those sailors moving out of the Optimist, Starling and O'pen Skiff classes into youth classes following their upcoming nationals.

The clinic is being run by Yachting New Zealand's Aon Youth Programme coaches and the programme is designed for young sailors who have moved into a youth class within the previous six months and are not already attending the Aon National Youth Clinics.

The aims of the clinic are:

  • Explain how the boat works

  • Learn how to set up your boat for a variety of conditions

  • Learn the fundamental techniques that will help you progress your own training

  • Provide an opportunity to be assessed for eligibility to attend the Aon National Youth Clinics

It also presents a good opportunity for parents to meet the Yachting New Zealand coaches and learn more about the youth programme.

The classes at the Akarana clinic will be 420, Laser Radial, Nacra 15, 29er, windfoiling and kitefoiling. Registrations close two weeks before the clinic and cost $100 per sailor.
