Sail French Bay

Issue date

Sunday 28 February is the day of the annual French Bay Regatta, a one day event fast becoming famous for its warm hospitality, quality race management, and superb sailing conditions, only 20 minutes from the CBD.

“Our annual regatta is a big focus for the club and these days we expect at least 100 boats,” says French Bay Yacht Club Commodore Paddy Charles. “We all get behind it and help out, it’s a lot of fun.”

Expressions of interest will be accepted for divisions from all classes, but French Bay is popular with 3.7s, Jollyboats, Lasers, Laser Radials, Starlings, Optimists, and more. The club appreciate the support it gets for this regatta through its close links with other Auckland clubs.

“Sailing on the Manukau Harbour is great fun - it’s very tidal so there is water movement and chop to contend with, but in a South-Westerly, it’s probably the best place in Auckland to sail because the breeze comes in direct from the heads.”

Boats launch and retrieve from French Bay beach or the club’s reclamation and ramp. Ample parking is available.

The event is sponsored by Fineline TM Ropes and Auckland Towbars. Auckland Towbars is a Titirangi company that will travel throughout Auckland to fit a towbar to almost any vehicle.

Spot prizes have been sourced from several businesses including NZ Sailing, Blum, Delegat Wines and Pyrénées - French Deli, and top sailors will receive medals for their efforts.

Look forward to seeing you at French Bay on the 28th – more info on the attached flyer and at: http://www.frenchbay.org.nz/#welcome
