Individuals and groups now have the opportunity to book a crew position and race on board Steinlager 2 for the Friday evening Rum Races. Sir Peter Blake sailed Steinlager 2 into sailing history winning every leg and overall honours in the 1989/90 Whitbread Around the World Yacht Race.
The New Zealand Sailing Trust now owns and is restoring Steinlager 2 for youth sailing programmes and other events that support the goals of our Trust. We had a first for our first Rum Race before Christmas, so if you have a competitive streak and would like to experience some big boat racing come and join us.
The Trust has set aside Fridays in January and February this year to race. A minimum of 7 guest crew must be booked for the race to go ahead, we have to have enough grinders! Guest crew will be fully involved in all aspects of racing with our professional crew will work alongside you teaching you all you need to know about Maxi Yacht sailing.
