Women's Laser champs

Rennie-Younger takes out Auckland women's Laser champs

Issue date

It has almost become tradition for a women's Laser sailing regatta to be beset by blustery conditions and it was the case when 14 women contested the fifth Auckland women's Laser championships on Panmure Lagoon last weekend.

Annabelle Rennie-Younger, who competed at this year's world sailing championships in Aarhus and was fifth at the 2017 Youth Sailing World Championships, dominated in the 8-18 knot winds, winning every race except one.

Samantha Stock, who went to this year's youth worlds, took out the other race, with Isabella Boyd finishing third and second junior. All three won a coaching session with Andrew McKenzie, who is one of this country's top Laser sailors.

Yachting New Zealand regional support officer Raynor Haagh narrowly won the masters division from Helen Spencer and Lucia Chagas, who normally sails a Starling and was in a Laser Radial for the first time, was first in the green fleet.
