Yachting New Zealand is offering a free national match race umpire seminar on 18-19 October at the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, led by experienced international umpires Colette Kraus and John Rountree.
Open to all levels of umpires - from club and beginner to experienced - the seminar provides a comprehensive introduction to match racing umpiring.
Attendees will gain the skills needed to officiate at local and national events, with Day 1 focused on the Racing Rules of Sailing and Appendix C (match racing rules), and Day 2 dedicated to practical umpiring techniques, including consistent decision-making and optimal boat positioning.
At the end of the two-day course, participants who wish can sit the national umpire written exam.
