Programme Co-ordinator / Instructor / Coach wanted:Tauranga

Job Vacancy- The Tauranga Yacht & Power Boat Club in the beautiful Bay of Plenty in New Zealand is looking for a Programme Co-ordinator to help develop a beginner to advanced sailing programme for the Summer 2013-2014 season (Sept to end April) as well as provide learn to sail instruction and race coaching. 

This position is for an enthusiastic individual who has racing and coaching experience and can instruct the YNZ Learn to Sail syllabus with YNZ certification or equivalent. The candidate should be friendly, energetic and enjoy working with children and can provide excellent leadership, education and safety management.

Responsibilities will include classroom and on-the-water instruction as well as coaching our experienced and not-so-experienced young racers.  As co-ordinator you will have the opportunity to help develop this fast growing programme into being a successful pathway for beginners to experienced sailors.

Details:

  • Candidate will be required to work from early September to end April.
  • Co-ordinate and plan well structured and organised beginner to advanced programme.
  • General sailing instruction for students ages 8-18, beginner to advanced levels.
  • Coach on the water and in the classroom. 
  • Mentor volunteer instructors and coaches.
  • Ensure overall safety of programme participants.
  • Prepare and execute YNZ Learn to Sail curriculum including lesson plans, debriefs, records, and rainy day activities.
  • Help teach and/or facilitate Intermediate Level Race Clinics for sailors.
  • Manage basic repair/maintenance of boats.
  • Communicate and interact with parents.
  • Act as coach for away regattas supporting sailors from our club.
  • Candidate should have 2-4 years minimum sailing instructor experience preferred and should have YNZ Instructor certification or equivalent (i.e. US Sailing Level 1, RYA Level 1).
  • Competent power boat operator and perform basic sailboat repair and maintenance.
  • On-site accommodation may be included in comfortable club flat.
