AGM

Positive feedback at this year's AGM

Issue date

Delegates from as far away as Christchurch attended the 65th Yachting New Zealand annual general meeting in Auckland on Saturday.

The meeting at the Kohimarama Yacht Club brought together members of affiliated clubs as well as representatives from the Yachting New Zealand board and staff.

A handful of resolutions were passed, including a change to the Yachting New Zealand constitution to bring it in line with Drug Free Sport New Zealand as well as a small increase to the Yachting New Zealand club affiliation fees.

The club affiliation fee for the 2020/21 season will be $26.60 plus GST for every individual club member  and $66 plus GST for three or more members in a family. This has gone up from $24.20 plus GST and $60.50 plus GST respectively.

This helps Yachting New Zealand deliver value back to clubs around things like the employment of the four regional support officers, advocacy work, online education, club manual and coaching and race management courses.

"It was a really positive meeting," Yachting New Zealand chief executive David Abercrombie said. "It was really informative for everyone there and we really appreciated the feedback from many of those attending who showed their appreciation for the work Yachting New Zealand does for clubs.

"These AGMs are a great opportunity for clubs to come along and talk to Yachting New Zealand staff and board members all in one room and have a good robust discussion on how we operate and address any concerns members might have. I would encourage clubs to attend future AGMs.

"I would like to thank Andy Kensington and the Kohimarama Yacht Club for looking after us so well and for people like Matt Nolan from the Pigeon Bay Boating Club who made the effort to come such a long way."

Life members John Street and Jan Dawson were also among the attendees, as were representatives from the Classic Yacht Association, Young 88 Owners Association and Marauder 8.4 Owners Association.

Next year's AGM will be held outside of the Auckland region and more details will be released as they come to hand.
