Platu Peninsula Champs

Issue date

The Gulf Harbour and Royal Akarana Yacht Clubs have combined forces to create a new, double Act series for the International Platu 25 Class Keelboat.

The regatta is to be known as the Platu 25 Peninsula Championship and the first leg of the series will be sailed off Whangaparaoa Peninsula just south of the Gulf Harbour Yacht Club and Marina. The second Act is to be hosted by the Royal Akarana Yacht Club in the waters of Auckland Harbour. Each Act will comprise up to eight windward/leeward races. The final Platu Peninsula Championship score for each yacht will be the total of both Act 1 and 2 scores.

The Gulf Harbour Act is scheduled for July 21st and 22nd and the Royal Akarana Yacht Club Act will be held on the 17th and 18th of November 2012. Race documents are available by contacting either club or on their websites.

The regattas will be supported by a social occasion/dinner on each evening of the event and a prize giving.

A fantastic trophy to be awarded annually has been presented by John Weston of Yacht Racing Unlimited Ltd (YRU). YRU coaches yacht racing and John has successfully coached internationally to medal performances at World Championship and Regioal Games level.

Platu 25 yachts are available by contacting Suellen at RAYC where a special charter rate has been offered for regattas.

Berthage at Gulf Harbour Marina is arranged during Act 1 and free transport back to RAYC for delivery crews is in place.

National level Race management and Protest Committees are in place so the event will be fair and hard fought.

Gulf Harbour Yacht Club intends making Act 1 a family orientated event and is supplying information of accommodation available, and fun things for the family to do while the crews are sailing.
