In pictures: 2026 Barfoot & Thompson Women's Day Out, hosted by Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron
Waitematā Harbour turned on a fitting stage for the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron's Barfoot & Thompson Women's Day Out last weekend, bringing women and girls of all experience levels together for a full day of keelboat racing, learning and networking — no boat, crew or prior experience required.
A standout feature of this year's edition was the strong youth presence, with sailors aged 14 to 18 racing aboard the Squadron's Elliott 7 keelboats helmed by female athletes from the Emirates Team New Zealand Youth Training Programme, part of a format designed to help dinghy sailors from Auckland clubs transition into keelboats and build mentoring links with high-performance athletes.
