NZ's first intellectual disability regatta- Register by 31 December

Issue date

The Kiwi Ability Regatta, held from January 29th - 30th at the Royal Akarana Yacht Club will be a regatta for sailors with Intellectual disability, those with Acquired Brain Injury and those on the Autism Spectrum. Registrations close 31 December!

This regatta will be competed in Access 303’s – crews can be fully ID, (where at least one sailor has racing experience at club level), or mixed (where ID sailor maintains helm, and non ID crew can control mainsail and/or jibsail). Tuesday 29th will begin with an afternoon practice sail, and a social opportunity to ‘experience’ Auckland City in the evening.

Racing will take place on Wednesday 30th. The entry fee is just $50, so come out and give it a go!

The regatta will be run under the Racing Rules of Sailing 2013-2016 with some minor changes to appear fully in the Sailing Instructions - for example:

  • There will be an audio countdown in the starting sequence
  • Specific outside assistance will be authorised
  • Membership of the NACA is not compulsary

Please be aware, boats will not be provided by the organising authority. It will be a sailors responsibility to organise the loan of a boat from a Sailability Group. The organising authority are able to help you to make contact with groups to organise this.
