NZL Sailing Team going faster thanks to B&G

Issue date

Members of the NZL Sailing Team are constantly looking for a cutting edge to get ahead of the fleet and are better armed to do that following a partnership with B&G.

B&G have been at the forefront of sailing innovation for 50 years, developing world-leading sailing navigation and instruments to help sailors go faster and safer. They are part of the Navico Group, which is made up of nearly 20 of the world's most trusted brands in the marine and mobile industries sector, and the official partner of premier sailing events including The Ocean Race and SailGP.

B&G are now supplying Yachting New Zealand with high-tech windgear and displays which provide coaches and sailors with accurate and reliable information about what is happening on the water.

"We are known for performance on the water," B&G global brand director Michael Blackwell said. "We have been onboard every Ocean Race winner, and currently are the technical supplier for SailGP. However, we love to give back locally, so this partnership with the NZL Sailing Team is one way of doing that."

Yachting New Zealand's high performance sailors and coaches have been utilising the technology since July and were impressed from the outset.

"Our coaches and sailors are thrilled with the accuracy of the B&G wind gear," Yachting New Zealand high performance director Ian Stewart said. "The data provides more confidence in depicting trends and hopefully better decisions on the race course"

B&G marine electronics have proven their outstanding accuracy and reliability by steering and navigating many of the world’s top sailors to race victory. This technology is now available for club racers in an easy-to-use, easy-to-install and affordable range that will give you that vital edge on the race course.

"Our products are ideal for every type of sailor, from coastal cruisers and club racers to the elite," Blackwell said. "You don't need to be an expert to use our gear anymore and the technology will help you become a better sailor. The systems and sensors do all the heavy lifting."
