Ian Vickers will represent New Zealand at the IOM (International One Metre) World Championships; starting in Foster City, California, on 8 May. The International One Metre class is arguably the most competitive of the radio sailing classes. Vickers has been a consistent top 10 finisher in other World Championships, won the 2013 USA nationals, and has won the NZ IOM Championships several times.
A boat builder by profession, Vickers has contributed to the campaigns of a number of Americas Cup syndicates. He designs and builds his own IOM boats; the V-series is well known to NZ and international competitors. His latest boat, the V9, appears very competitive and he should be confident in its performance at this event.
