Northern Region RSO Hamish Hey moves on

Issue date

Hamish Hey finished with Yachting New Zealand last week after five years as one of the Northern Region regional support officer working with clubs in the Auckland, Waikato, Thames and Bay of Plenty area.

Hamish Hey has left Yachting New Zealand after five years as regional support officer.

He has been instrumental in his time with Yachting New Zealand in the growth of college teams sailing in the region, getting sailing into the AIMS Games and helping grow the fleet to nearly 100 competitors. Hamish has also had a great impact on umpire recruitment and support, improving rules knowledge within clubs and supporting clubs where needed in his region.

“I will miss the many friends around the region I have made, young and old, along the way," he said.

Sailors, coaches and club volunteers often speak of Hamish’s enthusiasm and willingness to go above and beyond to help support them.

He has been looking longingly at the 12ft skiff parked in the backyard which “hasn’t had the cover off a while". He assures us he will stay involved with umpire and judging at events and supporting the clubs he is a member of with volunteer time.

Hamish has returned to a career in town planning and everyone at Yachting New Zealand wishes him all the best.

Yachting New Zealand are currently working on putting someone in place to continue supporting clubs in the region. In the interim clubs can contact:
