New partner for Sir Peter Blake Torbay Regatta

Issue date

The Sir Peter Blake Torbay Regatta is proud to announce a new three-year partnership with Volvo Cars as the premier sponsor of the two-day event.

New Zealand’s largest centreboard event and one of the most respected sailing events in Australasia, the Sir Peter Blake Torbay Regatta takes place annually in the first weekend of December.

Encompassing many classes which attract a range of ages, the predominantly youth event is a perfect fit for Volvo who are committed to the development of New Zealand’s future yachting stars.

Stephen Kenchington, general manager, Volvo New Zealand, says the sponsorship is an extension of the brands support for youth sailing with the Volvo Sailing… Have a Go! programme as well as contributing to youth development camps and clinics with Yachting New Zealand.

“Volvo globally supports sailing from grass roots level, through youth development and to the pinnacle of the sport with the ownership of the Volvo Ocean Race, the world’s pre-eminent round-the-world yacht race and one of the most coveted prizes in sport.”

“We are delighted to be able to partner with Torbay Sailing Club and The Sir Peter Blake Trust to support this fantastic event and encourage our young sailors to continue to strive for excellence and achievement in this incredible sport.”

Ross McKinnon, Rear Commodore of Torbay Sailing Club is grateful to have such a passionate sponsor involved in the regatta.

“The Sir Peter Blake Torbay Regatta celebrates and rewards our nation of sailors attracting participation from all over the country. Securing Volvo as a sponsor of the event for the next three years is a significant step in the growth of the regatta and we look forward to all participants benefitting from this partnership,” says Ross McKinnon.

The regatta takes more than a name from Sir Peter Blake, it also embraces his values of leadership and fair play as well as attention to the environment and marine life.

With Auckland now confirmed as a stopover port for the next two Volvo Ocean Races and after an incredibly thrilling America’s Cup campaign from Emirates Team New Zealand there couldn’t be a better time to invest in the future sailing stars of New Zealand.
