This years regatta was sailed in a perfect 10 to 12kn North Easterly. The youth crews adapted amazingly to keel boats and kite work to sail 5 hard fought windward leeward races without incident.
This year there was a great tussle for first place with first timers, Murrays Bay Sailing Club edging out Wakatere Boating Club 1 for the win with another first timer, Glendowie Boating Club third. Also new this year, Maraetai Boating Club finished fourth, with French Bay and Wakatere 2 next. Thank you to Wakatere Boating Club for ably running the regatta.
The idea of the regatta is to highlight avenues for our skilled youth sailors and their parents to continue enjoying their yachting once they graduate from the youth clubs.
Coming up in spring we have our our winter maintenance program, the Chopper Cup, the Grammar Fundraiser etc……. Then the Open Keel Boat Nationals, Women’s Keel Boat Nationals and our Pacific Keel Boat Challenge – already we have nine overseas Expressions of Interest…….
