Murrays Bay Sailing Club are inviting past members or people in the community who have been associated with Murrays Bay Sailing Club to join the newly formed Murrays Bay Sailing Supporters (MBSS).
The MBSS is an incorporated society that has been formed by past and present members of Murrays Bay Sailing Club to foster a lifelong association with the Club.
Committee member David Gunn says, “With the development of the fantastic new boat shed and club rooms we believe there is an opportunity to welcome back past members and families to use the club facilities to get together with old friends and also give something back to youth sailing.”
The MBSS will raise funds through subscription, donation and fundraising events including an annual old boys and girls dinner. Funds raised will be distributed to the Club to be used as directed by the Society from time to time. Initially any funds raised will be used for the completion of the new facility and to assist in the repayment of the clubs recent rebuild loan. Over time it is expected that an investment fund will be created that will be able to distribute income as per the rules of the MBSS.
Membership of the MBSS is by way of a onetime fee of $500, though additional donations would be appreciated. (Life Members are automatically enrolled with no subscription payable.)
Membership of the MBSS will provide access to the club lounge facilities and members are invited to participate in any Club Functions. (Current Club Members are invited to join though will still be expected to pay annual club subscriptions whilst still involved in sailing activities.)
“We are hoping that many past members who are no longer associated with the club will join and become part of a community that can support the club financially but also by giving support to run regattas and generally be associated with one of the world’s great sailing clubs,” says Gunn.
“Please come along to our inaugural get together on 22nd July at 7.30 pm in the new (not quite finished) clubrooms to get to know more and sign up to be a member of the Murrays Bay Sailing Supporters.
“Spread the word to anyone you know who may be interested and come along on the 22nd. If you are unable to make this date please feel free to contact members of the establishment committee to discuss membership.”
Committee members include: David Gunn, Julian Beavis, Garry Hassall, Kim Rogers, John Cobb, David Barnes
