Kiwi sailor Ian Vickers has opened his IOM World Championships campaign with a seeding race win and a creditable 6th place in race 2. Unfortunately a Black Flag Disqualification in his third race dropped him out of the top, A-fleet. He finished in the B-fleet for races four and five.
After the first day’s racing, at Foster City, California, he lies in 22nd place of 76 entries.
Vickers will be aiming for a top 4 finish in his next B-fleet heat. That would promote him back into the A-fleet, which is where the top 20 race placings are available.
There are 5 more racing days. Racing finishes on 16 May local time (Sunday, NZ time).
