Experience proved a big factor at last weekend's Optimist teams racing regatta, with the top Kohimarama Yacht Club combination taking out the final.
As many as 24 three-person teams competed in the event hosted by the Murrays Bay Sailing Club but held on Lake Pupuke, with a number of those in green fleet.
The Kohi Blue team defeated Not Your Average Asparagus Ark from Murrays Bay 3-1 in the final of the open division while Team G.O.A.T (Murrays Bay) edged Kermit Crew from the Royal Akarana Yacht 3-2 in the green fleet final.
More than 125 races were held across the two days in the rapid-fire format and the judges were kept busy with protest flags waving all over the place. This was especially true in the final when Kohi's Sean Kensignton in particular showed his experience to inflict a couple of crucial penalties on the Murrays Bay sailors.
