Kerikeri reports on Learn-to-Sail

Issue date

Kerikeri Cruising Club finished the Learn-to-Sail part of their season with a treasure hunt and certificates hand out after another very successful year marked by fine weather and an excellent turn out of parents and younger sailors.

Saturday mornings were attended by 20 to 25 sailors with some afternoons having to be set aside when numbers went over 30.

The YNZ level one and two sailors mainly used Optimists and Able Dinghies, Level three moved up into Sabots and P-Class while larger parents and least experienced young sailors crewed in Sunbursts and Mistrals.

We are very lucky to have a great group of parents and Denis Hewett our boat master is invaluable at keeping our fleet of 39 boats in sailing order, we could not do without him.

We also had a very successful set of Yachting New Zealand run Volvo Sailing… Have a Go! days recently, run by Reuben Corbett and attended by 45 young sailors at least 15 of which have shown an interest in continuing sailing with the club.
