ICA announce partnership with RNZYS to form Offshore Cruising Division

Issue date

The Island Cruising Association (ICA) are pleased to announce a new partnership with the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron (RNZYS), that will see the ICA running coastal and offshore cruising events and rallies in conjunction with the RNZYS.

“Cruising is an area the RNZYS has not focused on in the past,” says RNZYS Rear Commodore Steve Mair.

The cruising events organised by the ICA will complement the RNZYS’s existing racing events, and add an exciting new dimension to membership for existing and prospective members.

The RNZYS chose to partner with the ICA because of the ICA’s history of organising successful cruising events. Rather than developing a schedule of cruising events from the ground up, the RNZYS chose to utilise the existing knowledge and experience of the ICA to ‘hit the ground running’ with the new Offshore Cruising Division.

“With the ICA’s extensive experience in cruising and their knowledge base, there was no point in reinventing the wheel.” Steve Mair commented.

The RNZYS’s Offshore Cruising Division will feature bi-monthly ‘Focus on Cruising’ evenings at the club’s Westhaven clubhouse, on the second Friday of the month, starting 14th February 2014.

These informational evenings will include seminars on subjects such as set-up, preparation and equipment necessary for offshore and extended coastal cruising, and will also double as ICA Club Nights.

The ICA and RNZYS are also planning to develop cruising rallies to New Zealand destinations such as the Marlborough Sounds, Fiordland and Stewart Island. These rallies will complement the existing schedule of offshore cruising rallies organised by the ICA.
