Head along to Sir Peter Blake book launch

Issue date

Sir Peter Blake was one of the world's most notable sailors but he was so much more than that and his life has been captured in a stunning biographical picture book for young readers.

The launch of Hero of the Sea: Sir Peter Blake's Mighty Ocean Quests, by David Hill and illustrated by Phoebe Morris, will be a family affair at the Royal New Zealand on September 29 (2pm-5pm) with plenty of fun activities for the whole family.

Sir Peter Blake’s life was filled with amazing adventures. During his 30-year career on the ocean, he sailed around the globe, won the world’s most famous races and broke records. Even his red socks became a national sensation. But no matter how many trophies Peter won, he always knew the survival of our planet was more important.

“Remember,” he wrote, “this is the most beautiful world, and it’s the only one we’ve got.”

Find out all about this famous New Zealand yachtsman, a true Kiwi hero – his amazing achievements in yacht racing and his important work to help save the world’s precious waterways – in this beautiful, illustrated storybook.

Books will be available to purchase, and proceeds will go to Sir Peter Blake Trust’s environmental programmes which inspire young people to care for our oceans and teach them about challenges like climate change and plastics in the ocean. Both David Hill and Phoebe Morris will be available to sign books.

RSVP info@sirpeterblaketrust.org by September 24 to register your interest.
