Get your entries in for NZ youth champs

Issue date

Youth sailors are encouraged to get their entries in for the upcoming NZL Sailing Foundation New Zealand Youth Championships at the Manly Sailing Club.

This country's top youth sailors will gather at Manly from October 7-10 and a New Zealand youth sailing team will still be selected from the event as a way to recognise the top sailors in each class.

Normally the youth trials are used to help select the NZL Sailing Foundation Youth Team to compete at the youth sailing world championships but this year's youth worlds, due to be held in Brazil in December, have been cancelled due to Covid-19.

Windfoilers and kitefoilers will compete for the first time and the age limit for these two classes has been extended to under-21s, although only those under 19 will be eligible for the NZL Sailing Foundation Youth Team.

Entries close on October 5 but competitors are encouraged to get their entries in soon to help with planning. The event will will still go ahead under level 2, with a number of safeguards in place, and a full refund will be offered should the regatta be cancelled.

Volunteers are needed to help on the water each day. Please email Yachting New Zealand youth coordinator Sam Mackay if you can help, even for one day.
