A new children’s book from renowned author Tessa Duder is available as a fundraiser for yacht clubs.
Out on the Water: Twelve Tales of the Sea is all about kids enjoying sailing and boats in a wide range of settings around New Zealand.
With children as the main characters, the stories range from a girl’s experience of her first Optimist regatta to a boy learning the ropes on a tall ship from Sydney to Auckland in the 1880s.
Each story features a beautiful drawing by award-winning illustrator Bruce Potter, and introduces sailing words and knowledge (helped by a glossary of language of the sea).
The publishers are offering Out on the Water to Yachting New Zealand-affiliated clubs at wholesale cost to support club fundraising with this very giftable book.

Tessa Duder is a keen sailor who has a long-standing commitment to the youth sport in New Zealand, from tutoring Opti sailors through to her work for the Spirit of Adventure Trust.
One of this country’s finest writers for children, Tessa has authored fiction including the Alex series and non-fiction (latterly The Story of Sir Peter Blake). One of the new stories is a fictionalised account of Peter Blake and brother Tony on an after-school sail across Waitemata Harbour in a Zeddie.
Tessa is a long-standing member of the Devonport Yacht Club, while Peter Dowling, the book’s publisher, is a member at French Bay Yacht Club.
The publishers hope that Out on the Water can entertain and inspire young sailors around New Zealand, with sales by clubs to their members and communities helping to fund youth sailing.
Out on the Water will also be available for sales at good bookstores everywhere.
