Job title: Watersports Instructor – Beijing China
Reports to: Waterfront Manager & Centre Manager
MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB
This role is to continue the development of an existing water sports company putting it at the forefront of
the Chinese sailing industry. The position will involve a hands on approach to delivering sailing as to all
different levels of clients.
Provide professional Instruction to all levels whilst ensuring a safe sailing environment. Enabling children
and adults to learn watersports in a fun manner all employees work as a team to offer a high level of
customer service at all times.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
• Running of formal and informal instruction through structured dinghy and windsurf courses.
• Run effective rescue boat cover.
• When on duty maintain a lookout over the whole sailing area.
• Carry out beach duties, including rigging and de-rigging of boats and launch and recovery of all boats
maintaining safety of the guests and craft.
• Provide excellent customer service at all times.
• Follow all beach operating standards.
• Provide supervision for children when in your care.
• Carryout evening care duties when needed.
• Contribute fully to the overall running of the Centre.
• Carry out other duties within your ability as requested by your line manager.
• You will be required to be flexible in your job role and may be required to move between different
bases according to operational needs.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
• Minimum 1 seasons experience as a watersports instructor.
• Highly motivated individual.
• Competent swimmer.
• Knowledge of health & safety legislation.
• Ability to work as a reliable member of the team.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Good communication skills- oral and written.
• Good with children.
QUALIFICATIONS
RYA Dinghy/Windsurf Instructors qualification, Powerboat level 2, Safety Boat Drivers certificate, Valid First
Aid certificate. Other watersports qualifications or experience is desired in areas of Canoeing/ Kayaking and
Stand up paddle boarding.
Job Title: Operation Manager - CHINA
Reports to: General Manager / Operation Director
MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB
This role is to continue the development of an existing water sports company putting it at the forefront of
the Chinese sailing industry. The position will involve a hands on approach to Leading, Coaching and Training
the water sports and activities teams. As Operation Manager you will be responsible for the delivery and
development of Sailing & Activities at all Centers. You will also be directly responsible for the delivery of our
Dinghy, Powerboat & Yachting programme.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
• Responsible for the Sailing and Activity programme，help with the delivery of summer camps and
groups at both centres
• Ensure operation adheres to RYA or BSC & Governing Body operating standards. Review all standard
operating procedures and training manuals.
• Proactively deliver staff training and development of RYA schemes to Staff to include, Powerboat
level 2, Dinghy sailing levels including racing, keel-boating, windsurfing
• Management of chief instructor, SI’s and RYA instructors; including working to develop their skills
and qualifications and day to day welfare aiming to retain staff longer who would want to return for
a second season or longer.
• Recruitment of RYA instructors and seniors for chief instructor roles at both Aofan and Beidaihe.
• Assess current standards of Aofan and improve on helping to develop its RYA status for future
development.
• Help Setup Grape Island as an RYA training centre.
• Help identify possible new locations if the opportunity arose to expand.
• Speaking to schools and groups in and around Beijing to bring for summer camps.
• You must be flexible in your job role and may be required to move between different resorts.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
• Passionate about sailing and water sports and activity industry.
• Managed a water sports team of about 25 staff or more for at least 2 years
• Extensive sailing skills and operations knowledge.
• Highly motivated individual
• Excellent customer service skills
• Good verbal, written communication and numerical skills.
• Strong organisational and team-working skills.
• The ability to delegate and motivate others.
• The ability to work to deadlines and cope with pressure.
• Self-confidence to sell ideas and brief agencies.
QUALIFICATIONS
• RYA Water sports Senior Instructor| Powerboat Instructor | Safety Boat Drivers certificate
• Endorsements; Multi Hull, Race | Windsurf Instructor | Yacht Cruising Instructor
• Proficient with MS Office applications, Word / Excel / PowerPoint
• English Language. Foreign language, Chinese an advantage
