Experienced skippers needed in Micronesia

Issue date

Are you an experienced sailor with offshore sailing certification looking for an exciting change? Are you keen to sail on a traditional Pacific open ocean sailing canoe? Would you like to help train and empower Pacific Island crews and transfer your sailing knowledge?

Okeanos Foundation for the Sea provide traditionally based sustainable sea transportation in Micronesia on modernised Pacific-style open ocean sailing vessels

They are looking for skippers for their Vaka Motus for 6-12 months with an immediate start. Vaka Motu specific introduction and training will be provided.

Here's a short video to get a taste of what it's like.

Anyone interested - or simply looking for more information - can send their resume and motivation to apply to Christine Biesgen, head of operations, on christine.biesgen@okeanos-foundation.org

Okeanos Foundation for the Sea are a philanthropic non-profit organisation who build traditionally designed and fossil fuel-free sailing canoes throughout the Pacific to support outer island communities who suffer from inadequate sea transportation. They've been constructing their boats in Auckland for the last 10 years and their newest vessels that will be servicing islands in Micronesia are in need of skippers.
