Excellence of NZ’s marine companies gains global recognition

Issue date

NZ Marine member companies Southern Spars, Warwick Yacht Design, Lloyd Stevenson Boatbuilders, Alloy Yachts and Yachting Developments have been recognised for their talents in two recent award ceremonies.

Southern Spars were presented with the Baldwins Intellectual Property Commercialisation of Innovation for Export award in the 2013 Auckland Export Awards on 21 June.

According to Lott, the key to Southern Spars’ on-going export success has been a willingness to invest and to get involved in projects that fully stretch the design and manufacturing capabilities of the business.

Another NZMI member, Events Clothing, was also named a finalist in the QBE Exporter of the Year (total sales under $25 million). Both exporter of the year awards went to other finalists.

The 2013 Showboats Design Awards also took place over the weekend where the talented workforces of four NZMI members contributed to more award-winning projects.

Auckland’s Warwick Yacht Design partnered with the UK’s Redman Whiteley Dixon in being presented with the Interior Layout Award for sailing yachts for their work on Quintessential, the 100ft composite sailing catamaran built by Auckland-based Yachting Developments.

The Tender Design Award went to US-based Fontaine Design Group for the tenders built by Lloyd Stevenson Boatbuilders Ltd for Loretta Anne, the 40-metre motor yacht built by New Zealand’s Alloy Yachts.

Alloy Yachts, in turn, played a role in multi award-winning designer Dubois Naval Architects being presented with Exterior Design and Styling Award for semi-displacement motor yachts for MY Loretta Anne.
