Entries for Two-Handed Triple Series rolling in

Issue date

A handful of entries from the Bay of Plenty and Northland will add extra interest to the upcoming 2018 SSANZ Two-Handed Triple Series sailed out of Auckland.

The opening event is on July 7, a 63 nautical mile race from Motatpu Island to Orakei wharf via the Tiri Channel, Gannet Rock, Tarahiki (Shag) Island, Frenchmans Cap, Waiheke Island and Motutapu Island again.

The series has typically attracted up to 130 boats and entries are rolling in for this year's edition. The Pied Piper fleet will have nine entrants, ensuring they will have their own division which will bring in another dynamic to the race for those sailors.

An amendment to the sailing instructions means cruising division yachts do not require a PHRF certificate, which should be attractive to some production boat owners who may not have competed in an event like this before.

This event is safety Catergory 4 (plus) and the requirements are outlined in the sailing instructions on the SSANZ website and compliance will be monitored via spot checks throughout the series. The SSANZ team are keen to get as many people on the start line as possible so don't hesitate to contact them if you have any questions.

The briefing for the first race will be at 7pm on July 5 at the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron.

A 100 mile race and the second race in the series will be on August 4 with the series wrapping up with a 50-mile race on September 1.
