Do you aspire to campaign toward the Paralympics?

Here is an overview of the essentials start you in the right direction for the beginning of your campaign in a Paralympic class boat. Why not get started today with more time on the water training and commit to some regattas?

First phase- Get into training

  • Develop training partners and /or a coach at your home club
  • Train on the water regularly every week and start training in the gym
  • Take part in a domestic racing circuit 3+ regattas / season incl Sail Auckland
  • Attend YNZ training clinics
  • Attend first and occasional international events such as Sail Melbourne
  • Focus on domestic skills such as boat speed, boat handling and fitness

Second phase- Get into high performance

  • Maintain relationships with training partners and coaches
  • Increase number of days on the water, and in the gym per week
  • Attend all of YNZ’s Training Clinics
  • Take part in an international racing circuit including World Championships
  • Develop key domestic skills to become world standard

Third phase- Get into excellence

  • Maintain relationships with training partners and coaches
  • Increase days on the water per week
  • Maintain regular gym training, international circuit racing,
  • Improve results at international regattas including World Championships - Podium
