Day 4: 2014 Toyota National Optimist Champs

Issue date

Another breezy day on the open fleet with a peak of 23knots and good averages of around 17knots.

The fleets were racing in the first day of the final's series which saw the top sailors come together for the first time in one fleet and it created some very close and competitive racing. Scott McKenzie consolidated his lead and Lewis Anderson, in second place, also has a relatively good position. The next placings are all very close so we are in for an exciting day's racing tomorrow. We have one more day of racing tomorrow, after which the top five NZ sailors will represent New Zealand at the World Optimist Championships to be held in Argentina in October.

In the Green Fleet Blake McGlashan has taken over the lead from Samuel Charles and has a 10 point lead going into the final day. Some top racing alongside record numbers in the Green Fleet bodes well for the future of sailing in NZ.
