David’s Desk, September 2015; A Word from the Chief Executive

Issue date

Dear Members

We’re officially into spring. It’s the time of year that things are ramping up at the club house with the 2015-16 summer season nearly upon us and I would like to wish all clubs and your members a safe boating season whether you’re cruising, racing, learning to sail, paddling or fishing.

It’s also a busy and exciting time at Yachting New Zealand!

New to the YNZ team

I would like to welcome new staff members Danika Mowlem and Julie Sutherland who have moved seamlessly into their roles and add to the vibrant Yachting New Zealand office. Danika has taken on the role of Programmes and Services Coordinator, while Julie will be managing the roll out of the Member Card initiative.

Read this separate article to put faces to the names and find out more.

Providing Member Information to Yachting New Zealand

Recently we have been directly in touch with all affiliated Clubs to let you know about the roll out of the new Member Card.

The Member Card will allow Yachting New Zealand to extend benefits from our network of sponsors and partners to your club members and ultimately individual boaties will see savings, and clubs will be able to reduce their operating expenditure.

In the past, Yachting New Zealand has only been able to communicate with boaties via their clubs and we are looking at improving on this through new and direct lines of communication. The more connected we are to people in our sport, the greater our capacity to generate revenue to put back into our member services department.

I believe that to reach our potential we must work together to grow the sport and I whole-heartedly encourage affiliated clubs partner with us, and to take up the opportunity we are providing through the Member Card. I underline that Yachting New Zealand will not (and cannot lawfully) pass on any of your member details to a third party. This information will be retained by Yachting New Zealand only for the purposes of the Member Card and related communications.

If clubs would like to discuss this new initiative with me further, give me a call and discuss how we might be able to dispel any concerns that members may have.

Yachting New Zealand Youth Trials

I am really excited about the up-coming 2015 Yachting New Zealand Youth Trials being held at the wonderful new Murrays Bay Sailing Club facilities from 6-10 October.

Entry is now open for the event and I expect this will be a highly anticipated event given selection to attend the prestigious 2015 ISAF Youth World Championships Regatta is up for grabs. Big thanks to Murrays Bay Sailing Club for hosting!

New Murrays Bay Sailing Club

Congratulations to everyone at Murrays Bay Sailing Club for developing a unique new club house that will provide the facility for many years of sailing for the local community. It is truly a credit to members and volunteers who have contributed to the project; I know you must be delighted to see it come to fruition!
