David Abercrombie’s message to you; Submit now to see Takapuna Beach Reserve transformed

Issue date

The Harbour Access Trust has applied for resource consent to establish a Community Marine Activity Hub, located at the Northern end of Takapuna Beach. The resource consent application has now been officially notified to the public and Auckland Council must receive no later than 5pm on Monday 13th April, 2015.

I urge you to submit now in support of the project which would see the Takapuna Beach Reserve transformed for the benefit of the community.

I encourage you to share this with friends, family and colleagues.

The application for resource consent (including all associated documents) can be viewed, and submissions made here on the Auckland Council website. We’ve made making a submission in support of the resource consent quick and easy for you with these shortcuts and tips.

The current design vision meets both community and functional needs while reflecting a high standard of design that would fully respect and respond to the unique context, both environmentally and culturally.

The landscape strategy is for large grassed open spaces fully accessible to the public, plantings of coastal trees and low vegetation to match the surrounding landscape character. Public access would improve through new pathways, a landscaped grassed roof, stairs and ramps.

The building of the Community Marine Activity Hub will only occupy 10% of the reserve and will reflect a significant community driven focus providing for public storage, showers, toilets and change facilities as well as the ability to hire meeting/functions space.

I believe that the project which includes the establishment of a centralised and world class daily high performance training facility for athletes and coaches will be an asset to North Shore, Auckland and New Zealand, providing a high performance centre to develop a pathway for athletes to excel and perform to their potential on the world stage.
