SAILING OPTIMIST COACH/INSTRUCTOR


The Aberdeen Boat Club (ABC), is situated in the south of Hong Kong Island and has approximately 1200 members. It runs racing regattas, training events and National Camps for its members and the general public.


Following a development strategy to grow the competitiveness of our club for the Optimist sailing & racing within Hong Kong; ABC is seeking to appoint an Optimist Coach/Instructor to promote and develop Sailing for adult and children from beginner’s level to national competition/ International competition.


An important aspect of this role is a passion for developing dinghy sailing in Hong Kong and globally, a genuine desire to see young children developing their skills and enjoying themselves safely on the water and to have the greatest skills to handle a multicultural environment with tact, as well as dedication.


The successful candidate will be self motivated with strong interpersonal and presentation skills. Success in the role will be measured by the number of sailors who participate in Optimist program who go on to excel in racing events nationally and internationally.


Reporting to the ABC Dinghy Operations Manager candidates must have the following experience, qualifications and expertise.
 Promote the Optimist sailing as a beginner moving to racing level.
 Teach the basics of sailing, improve the skills and develop racing abilities of all sailors.
 Run your own program and arrange training and racing events.
 Optimist coaching experience is essential.
 Skiff coaching is preferable but not essential.
 Instructor/Coach Qualifications are essential.


The role is equally divided between program development, program communication, teaching, training, and coaching activities.


As this position involves work with children, a CRB/DBS check will be required prior to employment.
