Clubs get free recycling resource packs as Yachting NZ, CrestClean team up

Issue date
Yachting New Zealand is proud to announce a new partnership with CrestClean to bring free RecycleKiwi resource packs to yacht clubs nationwide.

This initiative supports Yachting New Zealand's Clean Club programme and provides tools to make it easy for clubs to take practical steps toward sustainability.

At the heart of CrestClean’s support is RecycleKiwi - a fun, free sustainability programme that began after schools asked CrestClean for help with their recycling efforts. What started as a simple idea has grown into a nationwide initiative, with over 9,000 resource packs now sent out to schools, businesses, and organisations across New Zealand.

RecycleKiwi was developed to help people of all ages to understand the impact that waste has on our natural environment. The programme uses education as a means to change behaviours around waste minimisation using the 4Rs - Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. By following the 4Rs, kids (and adults!) can make small, everyday choices that help care for our planet.

With bright wall posters, colourful bin stickers, and interactive educational materials, RecycleKiwi makes recycling simple and helps young Kiwis build habits that last a lifetime. Schools that use the programme have seen tangible results, like more waste correctly sorted, less going to landfill, and students taking the lead in recycling challenges.

Yachting New Zealand and RecycleKiwi are strongly aligned, sharing a passion for the ocean and a commitment to positive environmental change. Both are dedicated to educating young people about caring for the environment and now yacht clubs can get involved too, with RecycleKiwi resources making it simple to build recycling and waste reduction into everyday club life.

When combined with Yachting New Zealand’s Clean Club programme, these resources give clubs practical tools to reduce waste and make a positive impact on the marine environment, said Yachting New Zealand's Clean Club programme lead Alisa Torgersen.

"Just like RecycleKiwi teaches schools to recycle properly, Yachting New Zealand is committed to helping clubs make smart, environmentally responsible choices," Torgersen said. "Both programmes show that small changes can make a big difference, and by connecting land and water sustainability efforts, CrestClean and Yachting New Zealand are proving that everyone - from students to sailors - can help create a cleaner New Zealand."

The free RecycleKiwi resource pack includes bright wall posters, colourful bin stickers, and interactive educational materials and will be delivered to affiliated clubs in the coming weeks.

To celebrate the partnership, CrestClean has designed a unique RecycleKiwi poster just for Yachting New Zealand and Clean Club. It depicts RecycleKiwi wearing a life jacket and sailing at the bow of a yacht. The poster, along with a comprehensive pack of RecycleKiwi resources, will be delivered to affiliated clubs in the coming weeks.

CrestClean is proud to support clubs on their sustainability journey, equipping them with RecycleKiwi tools that make recycling and waste reduction easy, both on land and at sea.
