Aspiring club judges and sailing rule junkies take note - international and Olympic judge John Grace will be hosting several courses across the South Island over the next week, aimed at stimulating interest and developing judging expertise in the area.
According to Yachting New Zealand regional development manager Ian Gardiner, the courses are designed for club-level judging and are suitable for individuals who wish to learn more about the rules and protest procedures in sailing.
Courses will be held in Invercargill, Wanaka and Dunedin from tomorrow.
Invercargill
When: Thursday, August 3 (7pm-9pm) and Friday, August 4 (7pm-9pm).
Where: Squash City Invercargill meeting moom, 12 Onslow Street.
Wanaka
When: Saturday, August 5 (2pm-6.30pm) and Sunday, August 6 (10am-2.30pm).
Where: Wanaka Community Hub, McDougal St.
Dunedin
When: Monday, August 7 (7pm-9pm) and Tuesday, August 8 (7pm-9pm).
Where: Otago Yacht Club.
To prepare for the course, participants are advised to familiarise themselves with the Racing Rules of Sailing and complete the online learning modules, called the "Vital Rules of Sailing" course, which consists of four modules, each taking around 15-30 minutes.
