Club feedback sought on environmental issues

Issue date

Yachting New Zealand are keen to receive feedback on a couple of proposals that could impact yachties and boaties.

One proposal relates to a marine mammal sanctuary in the Bay of Islands which would prevent people coming within 400m of marine mammals and the creation of two five-knot marine mammal safe zones which would cover an area of 21km2

The other issue is on the State of the Hauraki Gulf Report and whether the right balance has been found between environmental, economic and social values in the gulf.

"We are investigating these two issues in more detail and we'd love to hear from clubs for their opinion," Yachting New Zealand national sport development director Raynor Haagh said. "We invited feedback from clubs so we can put together a submission with a united message."
