Capital Visit: Jo Aleh and Polly Powrie

Issue date

Wellington yacht club members are in for a treat with Olympic golden girls Jo Aleh and Polly Powrie heading to the capital this weekend to show off their medals, and meet and chat with local sailors.

It will be a hectic few days for Jo and Polly who are among the star attractions at the Heroes and Legends autograph opportunity in Auckland on Friday afternoon, followed by the annual 2012 Yachting Excellence Awards during the evening.

Come Saturday morning they’re on a flight to Wellington stopping first at Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club, then on to Worser Bay Boating Club for lunch with their sailors. Next stop will be Heretaunga Boating Club where Jo and Polly will present club member John Greenfield with his 2012 Yachting New Zealand Service Award (John is unable to attend the Awards presentation in Auckland).

Jo and Polly will be at Muritai Yacht Club to socialise with sailors as they come off the water from the day’s racing on Saturday with a Sunday morning visit to Paremata Boating Club before their return flight to Auckland.

Sailors from Wellington’s other yacht clubs are encouraged to get along to any of the yacht clubs being visited to meet Jo and Polly. Contact Central Region RSO, Wayne Holdt for more details.
