Bullot finishes 6th Laser at 2014 Kiel Week Regatta

Issue date

New Zealand Laser sailor Mike Bullot has ended his European tour on a strong note with a 6th place at Kieler Woche Regatta in Germany.

The Olympic class regatta concluded overnight in Germany after five days of racing; Bullot (pictured above) was the sole kiwi to feature in the 88-strong Laser class.

The tour marks a return to international Laser competition for the 30 year-old that represents the Murrays Bay Sailing Club on Auckland’s North Shore, after a break of close to four years. Bullot, a Laser World Championship silver medallist in 2009, last competed at a major Olympic class international back in 2011.

He got back in a boat during the 2013-14 domestic season for 2014 Oceanbridge Sail Auckland and the 2014 New Zealand National Championships heading offshore to collect a bronze medal at 2014 Delta Lloyd Regatta in Medemblik in May and finishing this week at Kieler Woche in Germany, both events in the EUROSAF Champions Sailing Cup.

Kieler Woche Regatta, which includes racing for the Olympic classes, is in its 132nd year and runs annually in conjunction with an onshore festival of events and celebrations in the German town of Kiel.

Bullot was one of three New Zealand entries competing at 2014 Kieler Woche. The others were 49er sailors Ben Goodwin and Sam Bullock who placed 21st and Peter Scheuerl who finished 27th in the Finn.
