Blue Gavel New Zealand invites Past Commodores to join for one year free

Issue date

The International Order of the Blue Gavel Inc (IOBG) is one of the most exclusive organisations in the world Past Commodore’s fraternity that promotes, supplies help when requested, and shows a continued interest in boating activities.

Blue Gavel New Zealand is inviting past Commodores from around New Zealand to join and is offering free membership for one year. Anyone who has held the position of Commodore qualifies to be a member.

The IOBG also makes annual grants to youth organisations that have a history of fostering youth in sailing. This is normally done by making a grant to the appropriate organisation. The grants are funded from either the IOBG subscription base or fund raising activity they embark on.

Another function of the IOBG is to assist with Disabled sailing programs around the country.

Blue Gavel New Zealand’s parent organisation started in 1953, the organisation spread world wide and into New Zealand in 1978. It’s Humanitarian Fund has recently collected money to help towards the re build of those nine yacht clubs damaged in the Christchurch earthquake.

The Blue Gavel Association in the USA is a means to enable Past commodores and their partners to meet other Past Commodores and enjoy fellowship while at the same time remaining in touch with the sport we all love so much.

In New Zealand Blue Gavel meets in chapters in most regions around the country and then come together for an AGM come reunion during August, alternating between the North and South Islands. The AGM is the highlight of the year.

Membership of Blue Gavel New Zealand has its advantages. When visiting in an overseas country, especially USA, letters of introduction can be arranged to allow you to readily visit most Yacht Clubs.

Blue Gavel New Zealand invites Past Commodores to take up the offer of free membership for one year by completing the application form which you can download below.
