Around White Island Race - Champagne Sailing

Issue date

It was great to see all 14 entered boats make the start line.  Only Marilyn (sunburn) and Farrago II (mast damage) didn’t quite make it.

Congratulations to Team Vodafone Sailing who set a new multihull race record.  They beat their own record that they set in 2010 by just 3 minutes and 2 seconds.  They completed the race in 27 hours 11 minutes and 58 seconds.  Brilliant effort!

Sally Garrett and Rob Croft sailed Expedition Coppelia perfectly and clinched the PHRF win.  Congratulations to both of them on a great race.

Truxton managed to stay on top of Bare Essentials and claim IRC victory.

Equilibrium was the first big monohull home however not without a great tussle with Starlight Express and Bare Essentials.

Well done to Unitec II!  They completed the race in 2 days, 19 hours, 43 minutes and 55 seconds.  They kept going and never gave up.  We seriously hope they are all having the day off today!

A huge thank you must go to Fred Price and John Muir who assist with the finishing and race management of the event.

A massive thanks must go to Maritime New Zealand who were excellent with the Radio Schedule Reports and with getting the positions through to us.
